Minds to Launch Crypto Token

Minds to Launch Crypto Token MINDS DEC 28, 2017, 2:59:01 PM Thank you for making 2017 truly amazing! The Minds Beta Community has steadily grown and reached nearly one million registered users, and we broke the record for the fastest company in US history to raise $1 million through equity crowdfunding from over 1,500 investors across the globe. We also made major upgrades to the Minds open source platform with Wire, Boost, World Languages, Monetization, Affiliate, Search, Blogs and Groups. At the same time the issues plaguing mainstream social media have only gotten worse. Between YouTube’s ‘adpocalypse’ and demonetization, Twitter’s censorship purge and Facebook’s reach hitting all-time lows, there has been no shortage of nightmares-come-true from the big tech giants. Nevertheless, all of this madness only reinforces why free speech, transparency, privacy and Internet freedom continue to gain momentum. The world is awakening to the need for an open source social network buil...

US Presidents Who Won But Lost - The Electoral College At Work

Image
The 2016 election was the most recent when the candidate who received the greatest number of electoral votes, and thus won the presidency, did  NOT  win the popular vote. But this scenario has played out in our nation’s history several times before. In  1824 , John Quincy Adams was elected president despite not winning either the popular vote or the electoral vote.  Andrew Jackson was the winner in both categories. Jackson received 38,000 more popular votes than Adams, and beat him in the electoral vote 99 to 84. Despite his victories, Jackson didn’t reach the majority 131 votes needed in the Electoral College to be declared president. In fact, neither candidate did. The decision went to the House of Representatives, which voted Adams into the White House. In  1876 , Rutherford B. Hayes won the  election (by a margin of one electoral vote), but he lost the popular vote by more than 250,000 ballots to Samuel J. Tilden. In  1888 , Benjamin Har...

The War On Poverty in America

Image
The “War on Poverty,” and the impact of public policy In his first State of the Union address in January 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson told Congress that “many Americans live on the outskirts of hope—some because of their poverty, and some because of their color, and all too many because of both.”  Johnson declared “unconditional war on poverty in America” and challenged Congress to act on income, jobs, health, education, and housing. Johnson’s call was propelled by the civil rights movement and its dual struggle for equal political rights and tangible economic justice for all. After all, the name of 1963’s March on Washington was “The March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom,” which included in its demands “a massive federal program” for all unemployed workers—black and white—and a minimum wage that “will give all Americans a decent standard of living.” In 1967-8 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. prophetically urged America, as his friend, the late Vincent Harding...

'Tis The Season To Pay It Forward!!

Image
As we’re all listening to  Christmas music , reading  Christmas stories , watching  Christmas movies , and making holiday plans with our families, all is not well in the world. There is a single mom with three young boys who had to take temporary refuge at her local shelter because the money ran out and she hasn’t been able to find another job. We all could be just one paycheck away from that. There was a time when I was overwhelmed by my monthly expenses because childcare cost me more than what I paid to live in a two bedroom apartment with my son. I said enough is enough and did what I said I would never do – I moved back to my hometown, where I had the support of my family and started over. For about a year and a half, I lived with my parents, worked two jobs, and slowly got back on my feet. Finally, we moved into our own place and I slowly adjusted to my new normal. But, what if I didn’t have a soft place to land? This time of year, especially, as my grand...
